Twitter today announced that it has been working on an editing feature “since last year,” with testing on the edit button with Twitter Blue customers starting “in the coming months.”

In a demo of the feature on the Twitter app, users are able to click a tweet’s details button to view an “edit tweet” entry that deletes already available tweets, pin to profile, change who can reply, and Add/Remove from list options.

There aren’t any details right now about how the edit button works, how long Tweets can be edited for, or whether there are version histories, with Twitter planning to provide that information later.

Twitter first joked about working on the edit button on April Fools’ Day last week. “We are working on an edit button,” the social network tweeted. Most didn’t take the announcement seriously given the fact that people have been battling for an edit button for years, but Twitter confirmed today that the work on the edit button is real.

Twitter plans to test the editing feature with Twitter Blue customers. Twitter Blue costs $3 per month and gives users early access to new features and other perks. With testing set to begin soon, Twitter aims to learn “what works, what doesn’t, and what’s possible”.
